What happens when the truth comes to light
In her sixties and having only just recently retired, Joanne’s world is turned upside down by the belated discovery that her parents have hidden the identity of her true mother. The simultaneous uncovering of her long-term partner’s infidelity adds to her questioning the foundations on which she has built her life. She sets out to find her birth mother and this journey of discovery takes her across Europe as she seeks to uncover her family background. Finding out how her ancestors have been affected by major events in the twentieth century history of Europe helps her to re-establish her sense of self and to rebuild her family relationships.
Family Secrets tells the story of a woman’s struggle to cope with the unexpected, to overcome adversity and to make sense of her life. It’s about love, betrayal, compassion, redemption and building new understandings in order to cope in an ever-changing world.
